Recreational and Social Activities

Recreational and Social Activities bring our participants together in fun and unique ways. Apollo incorporates fun-filled programs and activities for each event, occasion and holidays to make programming fun and exciting. By participating in these programs, participants can hone their communication and social skills while developing interpersonal relationships with peers and teachers.

Apollo ADP Swim Club

Being part of a team offers countless opportunities for personal growth, both in terms of social development and emotional well-being. The ability to collaborate effectively with others enhances communication skills, boosts self-confidence, and helps individuals navigate challenges in a supportive environment. Through teamwork, participants learn to manage stress, resolve conflicts, and build strong interpersonal connections—skills that extend beyond the pool.

To further these goals, we created our own Swim Club, running from May through October, to foster a sense of community and encourage a healthy lifestyle. This program combines the physical benefits of aquatic exercises with the power of teamwork, offering a fun and engaging way to stay active. Apollo ADP provides outdoor swimming opportunities, free of charge for all participants and for those who are refused by third party pool facilities due to mobility issues or incontinence. Apollo ADP rents a pool facility that is equipped with a pool lift to cater to all individuals served. Our dedicated staff actively participate in the sessions, ensuring that everyone feels included and motivated to reach their full potential. For safety and peace of mind, a certified Lifeguard and Water Safety Ambassador are always on duty during each session. By joining the Swim Club, participants not only improve their fitness but also gain valuable life skills that help them thrive both in and out of the water. Our Recreational Program Coordinator oversees and implements facility protocols, water safety trainings and (EAP) Emergency Action Plan, and ensures effective response to emergencies during swim sessions. In the absence of a lifeguard, all staff providing general supervision to swim club members have a valid water safety certificate from the American Red Cross, are able to swim and provide first aid and CPR if needed.

Apollo ADP Movie Club

Apollo ADP Movie Club members are given choices of movies and book our own private screening. All participants are snacking on popcorn, laughing with friends and day program staff and enjoying their choice of one of classic fan-favorites or new release movies in the privacy and comfort of our own auditorium. This private watch party can accommodate 75 people.

Our staff are trained to practice our covid mitigation protocols by encouraging hand washing prior to entering the movie theater, sanitizing the seats before seating and continuous encouraging of participants to wear masks while indoors.

Apollo ADP Boating and Fishing Club

Apollo ADP boating and fishing club program started in August 2021 for our individuals who love nature and experience the great outdoors through fishing and/or boating in the gorgeous lakes of California.

These exciting and spirit-lifting recreational activities will be led by our Program Director, Patrick Laurel, a certified boat operator, and our Recreational Program Coordinator, David Cain, who is both a certified boat operator and lifeguard in state of California. Patrick and David are also an experienced recreational angler. Our team of dedicated staff will assist our individuals through training and education about water safety, wildlife and nature enjoyment. Our goal is to share and open up possibilities and new dreams for our individuals that they have yet to experience.

All members receive fishing rods, lures, lines, snacks, refreshments, and life jackets for safety. Life jackets are mandatory for non-ambulatory participants fishing from docks or shores, as they may unintentionally roll into the water. US-approved life jackets are required for all participants fishing from the boat. The program also includes water safety training, transportation to and from the marina, fishing gear for boat fishing, and a boating experience at no extra cost.

Everyone interested to join the Apollo ADP Fishing Club will be introduced to fishing at the following lakes during program hours:

Hellyer Park | Lexington Reservoir | Almaden Lake | Lake Cunningham | Vasona Lake County Park | Santa Cruz Pier | Monterey Pier

More fishing sites to come!!!
